Susan McCabe is a Director of Peter Dunn Solicitors and is Head of the Family Law Department. She graduated from Hull University with a 2:1 Honours Degree in Law and qualified as a Solicitor in 1988. Susan is a Member of the Law Society’s prestigious Family Law Panel (Advanced) with her specialist subjects being finance after divorce and private children law. She is a member of the Law Society’s Children Panel of Expert Solicitors and represents family members and children themselves in private and public law proceedings.
She brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her Family Law Practice and specialises in the financial aspects of divorce and separation as well as pre and post nuptial agreements. Susan also has wide experience in relation to resolving disputes following the separation of co-habiting couples. She works closely where required with pension actuaries, tax experts and forensic accountants and is particularly committed to advice and representation in children work, but always striving to ensure that the needs of the children are at the centre of decision making. She will give timely advice to ensure her client’s interests are protected, including taking emergency action if necessary.
Susan will advise on the approach to be taken which is most suited to the needs of each individual client and will carefully discuss legal costs with clients before decisions are made. As an Accredited Specialist Member of Resolution and a qualified Collaborative Lawyer, Susan is committed to a non-adversarial approach and attempts if possible and appropriate to resolve family disputes outside of the Court arena. Of course if Court intervention is required, Susan will advise upon the appropriate course of action and has extensive advocacy experience in the Family Courts. She will be happy to have a confidential initial discussion with you about your case including the likely cost.
Susan is particularly committed to advice and representation in children work. She will give expert advice with sensitivity on the often complex issues relating to the arrangements for children following separation. Her advice is sought not only by parents but also by grandparents and other family members.
Seeking advice at the earliest possible stage is recommended by Susan as problems can often be averted or lessened with the correct advice. Susan enjoys excellent working relationships with her Clients and her practice has largely arisen out of personal recommendations from Clients and her professional colleagues.
Outside of work Susan is a great believer in personal well being, regularly practising yoga as well as attending a variety of dance classes including ballet, jazz and ballroom. Susan loves to cook and enjoys socialising with family and friends.
